ON THE MEND & FEELING BETTER
By: Ron Wilson
October 6, 2011.... For the last couple months it hasn't been fun. It
all started with a kidney stone the size of
your fingernail. Had it operated and taken out and by the time I had the
operation my body decided to go into full blown diabetic mode. Two weeks
later and I was down 50 pounds. Now my doctors wanted me to lose weight
but not that fast.
By the time it was all said and done I was taking 4 shots a day and
pretty much flat on my back for a month still dropping a pound here and
there. We finally got my body back in somewhat of a controlled situation
and I was feeling a lot better.
My wife Diana decided it was time for me to get out of the house. We
loaded up and took my tracker to the private pond early in the morning.
Diana loves top water but the bass weren't showing her any love.
After an hour of fishing I finally found a senko pattern that was
working and we started catching bass. In the next hour I had 3 5 pound
bass and one in the 10 pound class.
It was a wonderful couple hours out and the bite was really good. I
got to watch Diana hook and fight a big bass for a minute or so until he
just took her into the moss and shook the hook.
I was pretty weak so we headed for the barn at
10 a.m. I hated to
leave a good bite but I knew that the fish were not going to go anywhere
and I wanted to get better so I could come back after them.
A couple more weeks on the couch as the doctor said keep out of the
sun and no outside exercise for awhile. Stay in and get well. Needless
to say the couch really sucked.
I finally got back on my feet and it was the Bob's Marine annual
tournament at Clear Lake.
Carl Wagner and I signed up together for the team event.
Now a week before the event Norval Pimentel one of my buddies had a
heart attack. A quick ream job and he was out and about and chomping at
the bit to do his job as weigh master of the tournament. Arrangements
were made to make it easy on the old diehard bass pro to keep his job as
easy as possible.
We arrived a couple days early and started covering water. The bite
was tough for us as I just found one school of fish on day 1. Then on
day two we hit a couple spots that had fish up to 8 pounds.
First day of the event Carl and I headed past the narrows south and
hit our first spot. We put in a 17 pound limit right away and then went
to rocky point
where we had found some big fish. We caught a few fish there but none of
the big ones that had been cruising the area the day before.
Day
two and we went back to our starting point and put in a small limit.
Once again Rocky point didn't pan out for us. Stupid fish!
Anyway the fishing at Clear Lake was exceptional as it took almost a
4 pound average just to get a sniff at the money and a 5 pound plus
average to even get close to the top of the pack.
The next couple weeks was spent getting ready for duck and goose
season. Washing and stringing decoys, putting the blind together and
brushing. The un-fun part of waterfowl hunting.
Yep, I am on the mend and doing better almost daily, got my diabetic
condition under control with one shot a day and soon hope to be on the
pill or none at all. Hope to have a little better outdoor coverage here
for you to read as I get better and better. |
