GOTTA TAKE THE BAD WITH
THE GOOD!
By: Ron Wilson
December 9, 2004.... Last weekend duck
hunting was for the birds, literally! Saturday things were quiet for us
all morning while the group of hunters next to us downed several birds.
We finally got a flock of mallards to look
us over a couple times. They then went downwind and started sailing into
our spread, when over the hill came a crop-duster! The birds left for
places unknown.
If that wasn't enough, for the next 3 hours
a crop-duster came flying over the blind almost low enough to shoot!
Needless to say we never decoyed a duck or fired a shot on Saturday.
The most excitement we had was watching ice
form on the water. Oh yea I forgot, we cooked sausage and eggs for
breakfast, heated sweet rolls for snacks and then called it a day at
little after noon.
We headed out with the planes still buzzing
the area doing there winter spraying, seeding or whatever it was. All I
know is it was messing up the hunting!
Sunday it was another brisk day and as
daylight came. It couldn't t have been prettier, the bright sunshine came
rolling over the hills as 3 mallards flew by. However that was it for the
day. It seemed like the planes on Saturday ran all the ducks out of the
country!
I could of take a picture of the water but
when hunting is as bad as this about the only thing I wanted to do was be
somewhere else!
Why am I writing these words of wit, well
you heard about the good so now here is the bad! Sure hope the ducks make
in over my way again!
The ducks are piling up at the refugees on
the closed zones and hunters who know what they are doing are having some
of the best hunting they have had so far this waterfowl season! |
