EVEN
TOUGH DAYS CAN BE ENJOYED

September
12, 2002…. My cousin, Blaine Wilson, and I went to Lake McClure on
Monday. We arrived around 8
a.m.
After
making our way through the entrance, we passed several flocks of doves
all the way to the buoy ramp. We must of saw over 100 birds on the road
by the time we got to the south boat ramp.
South
Ramp is the only ramp open at Barretts. The cement block at the end of
the ramp is completely out of the water; the lake must of dropped
another 5 feet last week.
We
launched and headed toward the spillway to troll for trout. We stopped a
little before and started trolling toward the buoy line. I had
some of the best lures I own on, but nothing was biting.
We
picked up a small salmon at the buoy line and then headed north back
toward Barretts Cove. We trolled for miles with no hits. We covered
water from 20 to 90 feet without getting a single bite.
Once
we got past the house on the hill it was already noon, so I decided to
pull up and head back to the spillway area and give it one last try. As
I reeled in the last line, I discovered a 12-inch trout on it. That rod
had a blue/gold Ex-Cel lure on it. However, the fish had a sore, so it
was released.
The
wind had started making a riffle on the water and I like a little
breeze, it seems to make the fish active.
Back
at the Spillway we started trolling toward Temperance and were soon
rewarded with a trout. I went to the old creek bed, turned around and
came back over the 300-foot deep channel and we were rewarded with
another nice fish that was about 18 inches long.
I
thought O’Boy I finally found the pattern. They want a lure with gold
on it at 55 feet over the channel.
We’ll
we scratched out 5 fish for the day and headed back to the ramp at 3
p.m.
I
saw Everett Beckner, a friend of mine, who was on the lake. He was black
bass fishing and also having trouble catching fish, so I guess the fish
were just not cooperating very well.
The
weather was hot, but we had a great time even though the fishing kind of
sucked.
My
Cousin and I saw deer all over the lake and we kept busy chatting and
getting up to date on the many different things that have been happening
in our lives! |
