Hell Hole Reservoir

  • Description
    Hell Hole Reservoir is located approximately 75 miles northeast of Auburn in the beautiful El Dorado National Forest. The lake is surrounded by a rugged rocky shoreline. Camping facilities are available suitable for both tents and RV's just two miles from the lake with tent camping only permitted at the lake; boat-in camping available (no reservations accepted). All boating is permitted as well as water skiing and swimming; improved launching facilities available.

    Directions to Lake: From Auburn, on Hwy I-80; go NE 2 mi. to Auburn-Foresthill Rd. Turn E, go 18 miles to Mosquito Ridge Rd. at Foresthill. Turn E, go 36 mi., continuing on Rd. 96 to French Meadows Res. Cross dam, continue on Rd. 48, go 10 mi. (bear L at campground on Long Canyon Cr.) to lake.
